Variety Lights (John Porter, 1984, 4 minutes, silent) A sequel to John's earlier film Amusement Park (1977/78). Documents of a variety of scenes around downtown Toronto that contain bright lights at night. As with Amusement Park, they are all shot from dusk to night using single-frame shooting with time exposures on each frame, beginning with one-second time exposures then constantly increasing the length of the time exposures as the daylight lessened and even after dark, ending in an almost white-out of the night scene created by 2-minute exposures on each frame.
